Visual artist who creates expressive, colorful and vivid photomontages by layering digital photographic images of flora and fauna subjects.

A strong connection to the natural environment improves emotional wellbeing. I believe surrounding ourselves with art that represents nature and animals has the same positive effect, and I value maintaining a strong connection with the natural environment through art.

My mission is to lift your spirits by bringing sunshine into your home through juicy, radiant and vibrant photomontages of flora and fauna subjects. Furthermore, photographing flora and fauna in mindful and ethical ways is at the heart of my practice, and I commit to supporting environmentally-friendly photography practices paving the way for a greener future.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Visual artist (1987) born in Latvia, located in the Netherlands since 2013.

Ruta creates photomontages of flora and fauna subjects. She uses multiple digital photographic images and layers them on each other, making the photos go through a metamorphose so that a unique photomontage is born. Her style is expressive, impulsive, and vibrant, which comes through distortion and vivid colors. Although in her photomontages flora and fauna subjects are easily recognizable, the viewer is left confused and wondering what is real and what is not. In Ruta's photomontages reality intertwines with surrealism. Through her works she wants to strengthen her bond and that of the viewer with nature around us.

Ruta's previous research on the language of visual advertisements for a BA English Linguistics study and research on text visualization tools for an MA English linguistics study, both from the University of Latvia, formed the basis of her interest in visual studies. In 2020 Ruta completed a photography course at Shaw Academy, and in 2023 she graduated with an MA in Photography from the Falmouth University in the United Kingdom.

Her works have been exhibited in group- and solo exhibitions, mostly in the Netherlands.
